Explore The Historic Nissen House in Lewisville, NC
A Charming 19th-Century Landmark
Located at 213 Arrow Leaf Drive in Lewisville, North Carolina, The Historic Nissen House is a beautifully preserved Victorian-era home built between 1876 and 1880 by George Elias Nissen, a prominent local industrialist who owned the Nissen Wagon Works and a grist mill. Originally situated along what is now Shallowford Road, the house was endangered by development in the early 2000s. Thanks to community support and leadership from the Lewisville Historical Society, it was relocated in 2009 and meticulously restored on its current site .
Preserving Local History and Heritage
Today, The Historic Nissen House operates under Historic Nissen House, Inc., an independent nonprofit created in 2024, in partnership with Lewisville Historical Society. The goal is to turn the house into a regional history center, offering tours, educational events, and programs that showcase local landmarks like the Great Wagon Road, Shallow Ford, and early Moravian settlements. Its architecture combines Italianate and Greek Revival styles, featuring three front-facing gables, ornate interior woodwork, and original fireplaces.
